Before move day in San Francisco
Parking a moving truck in San Francisco
San Francisco requires an SFMTA temporary sign permit to hold curb space for a moving truck.
- Apply at least 5 business days ahead. Signs go up 72 hours ahead on unmetered streets, or 24 hours ahead at meters.
- For fiscal year 2026 to 2027 the permit is $355 for 1 to 4 signs, $489 for 5 to 9, and $614 for 10 to 15, plus $21 per meter per day.
- The move has to happen between 7am and 10pm.
- A storage container on the street needs a separate SF Public Works permit, and only a registered container company can apply.
